February 2017, the World Health Organization published their first ever list of Supergerm antibiotic-resistant "priority pathogens" – a catalogue of 12 families of bacteria that pose the greatest threat to human health. These once easily-treatable infections have been turned into deadly killers because they no longer respond to an ever-growing list of ineffective antibiotics. The critical group includes multidrug-resistant bacteria that pose a particular threat in hospitals, nursing homes, and other care facilities.
