Atherosclerosis /Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of men and women in the United States. It is the usual cause of heart attack, strokes, peripheral vascular disease, and kidney disease.
Every 43 seconds an American has a heart attack!
Almost 50 % of all heart attacks are silent according to a new study in the May 2016 journal Circulation. This means you could have a heart attack without realizing it because you won’t experience the classic symptoms of chest, arm, jaw pain or shortness of breath. Although silent heart attacks are more common among men, they are more dangerous for women.
A heart attack occurs if the flow of oxygen-rich blood to a section of heart muscle is cut off. This is often caused by plaque building up over time. Plaque is made of cholesterol, fatty compounds, calcium, and a blood-clotting material called fibrin. Research has found that there are 2 kinds of plaque: hard and soft.
As hard plaque builds up, the artery is narrowed so blood flow decreases or even stops, preventing enough oxygen from getting to the heart muscle, leading to a heart attack. Scientists think plaque starts when the very inner lining of the artery (the endothelium) is damaged. The endothelium should be smooth like Teflon, however when inflamed or damaged they become like Velcro grabbing onto the materials that form plaque. Doctors are now learning that chronic inflammation plays a significant part in developing plaque build-up and coronary artery disease.
Researchers now think that in the case of heart attacks, most are caused by soft or vulnerable plaque. A vulnerable plaque occurs in a chronically inflamed part of an artery.
Researchers believe that vulnerable plaque is formed in the following way: Fat droplets are absorbed by the artery, which causes the release of proteins (called cytokines) that lead to inflammation. The cytokines make the artery wall sticky, which attracts immune-system cells (called monocytes). The monocytes squeeze into the artery wall. Once inside, they turn into cells called macrophages and begin to soak up fat droplets. The fat-filled cells form a plaque with a thin covering which can rupture. If this occurs the contents and spill out and lead to the formation of a clot large enough to block the artery causing a sudden heart attack.
There is good news!
According to numerous medical studies deadly plaque build-up can be prevented and even reversed by Kyolic Aged Garlic Extract!
For a long time extracts of aged garlic have been known to reduce serum cholesterol levels in humans, inhibit cholesterol biosynthesis, suppress LDL oxidation, lower plasma fibrinogen and increase fibrinolytic activity and possess anti-atherosclerotic properties, (Bordia et al. 1977, Harenberg et al. 1988) (Lau et al. 1987, Phelps and Harris 1993).
As recent as 2005, one study showed Kyolic Aged Garlic Extract improved endothelial function in men with coronary artery disease. Remember they should be more like Teflon and less like Velcro.
In a 2010-2011 double-blind clinical trial, 65 Los Angeles County firefighters with a moderate risk for plaque build-up were randomly assigned to take a placebo or Kyolic Aged Garlic Extract+CoQ10 for one year. Firefighters have a two- to four-fold higher risk of having a cardiac event—such as a heart attack or sudden death on the job compared to the general population.
Those in the treatment group took four capsules per day, for a total dose of 1,200 mg Kyolic Aged Garlic Extract and 120 mg CoQ10 (Formula 110). Participants were not taking any atherosclerosis-preventing medications, such as Statin drugs.
According to research presented at the American College of Cardiology’s 60th Annual Scientific Session, after one year , the Firefighters taking Kyolic Aged Garlic Extract with CoQ10 were not only less likely to have a stiffening of arteries, but their blood vessels actually became more flexible compared to those who did not. The Firefighters also had nearly half the rate of coronary artery calcification progression compared to the placebo group
Reported in the2012 Journal Cardiovascular Disease Research concluded Aged Garlic Extract+CoQ10 were associated with beneficial effects on inflammatory markers and reduced progression of coronary atherosclerosis.
Over 700 studies have demonstrated that Kyolic Aged Garlic Extract (AGE) can protect against hardening of the coronary arteries by preventing a build-up of calcium inhibits the progression of coronary artery calcification.
New research published in the February 2016 Journal Nutrition, from Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, showed participants in the study were given either a placebo or a dose of 2,400 milligrams of Kyolic Aged Garlic Extract every day. A follow-up screening conducted a year after the initial screening found those who had taken Aged Garlic Extract had slowed total plaque accumulation by 80%, reduced soft plaque and demonstrated less plaque on follow-up for low-attenuation plaque.
Dr. Matthew J. Budoff, MD, an LA BioMed lead researcher stated, "We have completed four randomized studies, and they have led us to conclude that Aged Garlic Extract can help slow the progression of atherosclerosis and reverse the early stages of heart disease."
A review published in the same issue searched the medical literature for all evidence relating to effects of Aged Garlic Extract supplements on heart disease risk factors. The conclusion was they can also reduce blood pressure by 7–16 mmHg (systolic) and 5–9 mmHg (diastolic) and reduce total cholesterol by 7.4–29.8 mg/dL (0.19 – 0.77 mmol/L). Also Aged Garlic Extracts appear to have the most consistent blood pressure lowering effects.
How the garlic is aged is essential to achieving optimum health benefits.
Kyolic Aged Garlic Extract undergoes an extensive two-year proprietary process that concentrates the active beneficial compounds in organically-grown garlic. This includes the potent antioxidant S-allyl cysteine and other sulfur- rich amino acids responsible for Kyolic’s wide-ranging health benefits, especially for the cardiovascular system. The process also eliminates the odor- causing components naturally found in garlic.
During our 35 years in practice, Kyolic Aged Garlic Extract formulas are the only garlic supplements we have utilized with our patients. Kyolic’s continued scientific proven effectiveness as well as the consistent test results we have seen in with our patients is the reason why.
Kyolic has numerous formulas available which all contain Aged Garlic Extract plus other nutrients. The Kyolic supplements I recommend most frequently to patients are: Kyolic Blood Pressure #109, Kyolic Curcumin Inflammation, Kyolic+CoQ10 #110, Kyolic Blood Sugar Balance and Kyolic Red Yeast Rice+ CoQ10.
With all this research you have no time to lose! Remember Every 43 seconds an American has a heart attack and almost 50% of all heart attacks are silent!
Don’t forget Atherosclerosis /Cardiovascular disease also causes strokes, peripheral vascular disease, and kidney disease.
