Chest Congestion is running rampant and I have just the suggestion for you!

Posted by Jane Jansen on

Right now it seems everyone is calling me about chest congestion, which is an increase of mucus production in the esophagus, bronchial tubes and lungs. They are complaining that their breathing is extremely uncomfortable and inhaling and exhaling is requiring more effort and the antibiotic their doctor has prescribed isn’t working.

First you need to understand that mucus formation is our body’s way of preventing foreign particles such as allergens, like dust or mold, as well as infectious bacteria, viruses or yeast from invading the lungs. It does this by getting them stuck in sticky surface. However when the problem isn’t getting solved, such as taking an antibiotic when there is no bacterial infection, there is a drastic increase in mucus production which gets trapped in the respiratory system which can lead to viral or bacterial pneumonia.

First and foremost you need to eliminate dairy, soy or wheat products of any kind from the diet as they are mucus producing, which does not help the situation at all. This includes Boost or Ensure which are often prescribed by medical doctors and nutritionists. (Only God knows why, so don’t ask me!) Eating spicy foods, like hot pepper in soup gets the mucus draining.

Drinking teas like Breath Easy, or Herba Tussin and be soothing. An old home recipe called “Onion Honey Syrup” has been helping people for generations. Take 1 small yellow or white onion and chop up finely. Then add 1 tablespoon of raw honey mix up and let set over night, strain in the morning and take 1 tsp of mixture every 3 hours. (Not recommended for Diabetics) Eucalyptus oil or

There is a cough syrup by Natural Factors called “Active Defense Syrup”, which is excellent as it opens up the airways, decreases mucus production and improves immune system function, take 1 tsp every 2-3 hours or as needed. If there is a lot of congestions add to this “Clear Lungs” by Ridge Crest Herbals, 2 caps 3-4 x a day.

If you think you have an infection there are many Natural Antibiotics and Antivirals which are helpful and can be taken with these supplements. Also for people with chronic asthma, allergies, COPD or other serious health problems or taking numerous medications make an appointment (in person or via telephone) at our office at the Tree of Life Wellness Center to get you feeling great again!
